Hi folks, im currently using GW brushes at the mo, but i've got my eye on the army painter brushes, anyone have any ideas if they are any good, or any other brushes in similar price range.
I use a variety of sizes but the finer ones seem to loose their point, and larger ones start to fray, so brushes get relegated to scenery brushes then.

First thing to buy is some brush soap and learn about caring for your brushes properly, you can keep a brush almost perfect for years with proper care.
I believe rosemary and co brushes are the best bang for the buck, I'm not quite sure which range tho.

Natural brush fibre, especially sable, seems to hold its point far better than synthetic, so is recommended for detail work. Costs a fortune, but lasts well if you look after it, washing it properly as above.
For just slapping on a basecoat, you can use pretty much anything. Do avoid the ultra cheapies though, they tend to shed hairs like a moulting cat.. :(

Most people would recommend W&N Series 7 brushes. I have a few and are really nice, although I am still relatively new to painting so my opinion doesn't hold as much weight as some of the awesome painters on Dakka.
Also, at about £9 for a size 0 you want to take good care of it, but again, on alot of great feedback I bought some masters brush cleaner & conditioner over ebay from the states and does wonders for them.
If not try rosemary and co (https://www.rosemaryandco.com/index.php)
Supposedly on par with W&N but at a much better price.

As was mentioned, you need brush cleaner. Any brush will fray in short order if you don't use brush soap. Almost any brush will last years if you do use brush cleaner.
Get some Master's Brush Soap & Preserver. A 5$ jar will last you 2 years of consistant use.

How often do you guys use brush cleaner?
I use a small amount of hand soap after I've finished a painting session, but how often should I be using the cleaner?
Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Hand soap is supposed to be too harsh for natural bristle brushes like sable, and will wear them out too quickly.
I use brush soap every time. A 5$ tub can last well over a year.

Thanks for the info folks, first thing to do is get the brush soap, it'll be hobbycraft (in the UK).
Does it matter what the brushes are designed for, for example there is a huge selection of artists brushes but just a small section for model painting brushes, I suppose you could use either.
